About Us

Behind every initiative is a deep backstory. At Wildlife Tapestry, it’s no different. To know more about the venture, one needs to know more about its founders.

Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Nilupuli has harbored an endless fascination for animals and their behaviors since childhood. Her passion was so intense that as a young girl, she nurtured the dream of becoming a gamekeeper in one of the National Parks. However, as she matured, her passion took a backseat as she pursued a different path. After completing her post-secondary education in Computer Systems Design, she got married, had a wonderful son, and eventually migrated to Canada.

It was not until about 10 years ago when she inherited her family’s Canon camera that she slowly rekindled her love for animals, nature, and photography. A few years ago, she took a one-year leave of absence from work to spend time with her family in Sri Lanka and explore her beautiful home country. It did not take her long to realize that wildlife photography was her true calling. She ardently delved into learning everything she could about photography and animal behavior, eventually resigning from her job to co-found Wild Tapestry with Janith.

Co - Founder

An avid bird enthusiast and naturalist since childhood, Janith’s life has always revolved around nature. He has been a member of the Young Zoologist Association since 2007 and a volunteer at the National Zoological Garden, gathering extensive knowledge through his involvement in numerous survey and research projects. These include Biodiversity in Horton Plains National Park, Bird diversity in Bodhinagala Forest Reserve, and the distribution of mammals in Knuckles Forest Reserve. Additionally, he has contributed to the documentation of marine mammal diversity and behavioral patterns on the northeastern coast of Sri Lanka.

However, merely witnessing the surrounding beauty was not enough, which naturally led him to immortalize these moments through his lens, initiating his lifelong relationship with wildlife photography. After completing diplomas in Wildlife Management and Eco-Tourism from the Open University of Colombo, he commenced his career as a naturalist and a Ranger at some of the top game lodges in Sri Lanka in 2010. Presently, he serves as the head ranger for a luxury game lodge chain in Sri Lanka, continuously pursuing further education in the realms of wildlife management.

Let’s get planning!
